CU-TEP - Chulalongkorn University Test of English Proficiency

Introduction

The CU-TEP is the test of English proficiency of Chulalongkorn University. It is necessary for students who wish to study in an international program at the Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD level at Chulalongkorn University. The CU-TEP assesses the candidate’s reading, writing and listening skills to make sure that students have the necessary abilities to follow lectures and participate in their chosen program.

What is tested?

The CU-TEP is divided into three sections: reading, writing and listening.

1.     Reading: The reading section consists of a series of texts given to the candidates. Inside of 70 minutes the candidate has to answer 60 questions concerning the texts, including cloze reading, short and long texts.

2.     Writing: The writing section consists of 30 questions. The candidate has to solve error identification and sentence completion exercises inside of 30 minutes.

3.     Listening: In the listening section, candidates will listen to a tape recorded by English native speakers. Recordings include short dialogues, long dialogues and monologues. The candidates have to answer 30 listening comprehension questions inside of 30 minutes.

The CU-TEP encompasses a total of 120 questions and the total test duration is 130 minutes. Candidates can use the test results for application up to two years after the test date. Candidates are allowed to take the test more than once to achieve the best possible results. However, they should make sure to have their test results ready at the beginning of the year for admission to Chulalongkorn University.
